addition to the state owned commercial banks, a
joint-venture Xiamen International Bank and a wholly
foreign-owned Xiamen Commercial Bank, there are branches of
overseas banks, namely, Chiyu Banking Co., Ltd. (Hong Kong),
The Bank of East Asia, Ltd. (Hong Kong), Hong Kong &
Shanghai Banking Corporation, Ltd. (U.K.), United Overseas
Bank Ltd. (Singapore), Bank of the Orient (USA), Standard
Chartered Bank Ltd (U.K.), Credit Lyonnais Bank (France),
ING Bank (Netherlands), Bangkok Bank (Thailand) and
Commercial Banks of the Philippines, etc. Hengseng Bank
(Hong Kong), CitiBangk (USA), the Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank Ltd.
(Japan), Allied Bank (Philippine) and the Hartford Fire
Insurance Company have established representative offices as
well. At present, there are more than 600 financial
institutions in operation, rendering various services to the
foreign-funded enterprises.
